Visual codes - The visual codes included in holby city are the clothes worn, the place where it's set and the different lighting. The characters in holby city wear suits and gowns according to their job role. This creates a more realistic setting as they are accurately dressed in accordance with their role in the hospital. High key lighting is mostly used as this is most appropriate for a hospital environment as the patients may require close attention and also it allows the audience to see whats going on.
The technical codes used including camera are median (mid) shots, panned cameras, zooming, close ups and hand held cameras. The mid shots are used on the characters to show their body language as the audience get to understand the characters emotions. When the camera pans around the characters this gives the effect that you the audience are there with them in the scene and also gives a 360 degree view of the characters. The hand held camera that is used makes the audience feel more involved in the situation as it gives the feeling of you being there.
The technical codes that are used are mostly non diegetic sound and diegetic sound. The non diegetic sound is used to make the scenes and the surrounding seem more realistic and add a level of realism. The diegetic sound is played in the opening sequence which makes it seem more dramatic.
